Students from Granbury ISD competed in the 2025 Fort Worth Science and Engineering Fair on February 24 at UT Arlington.
In the Senior Division:
Laney Matthews: 2nd Place in the Earth and Planetary Category with her project titled, “Peeling Back Succession II: Natural Extracts for Accelerating Post-Wildfire Ecosystem Recovery”.
Shanice Gibson: 3rd Place in the Plant Sciences Category with her project titled, “Evaluation of Plant-Based Bioactive Compounds on Multi-Ethnic Artificial Skin Models for Atopic Dermatitis Treatment”. Shanice was also awarded the Ellen and Delbert E. Lawry Award Special Award.
Santiago Lumbreras: 1st Place in the Animal Sciences Category with his project titled, “Neuroprotective Effects of Nutraceutical Supplementation for Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy”. Santiago also placed 2nd in the Best of Fair, which means that he will represent Granbury High School and the Fort Worth Regional Fair at the International Science and Engineering Fair in May. ISEF hosts the brightest young scientists and engineers from over 70 countries. He is the third student to receive this recognition in the history of Granbury ISD.
Jamie Atcheson competed in the Physics Category with her project titled, “Constraining Dark Energy Density Variation Through Multi-Epoch Analysis of Type Ia Supernovae Data”.
In the Junior Division:
Paola Lumbreras: 1st Place in the Medical and Health Sciences Division with her project titled, “Investigating Natural Antioxidants as Protective Agents Against Alcohol and Nicotine-Induced Fetal Developmental Abnormalities”. Paola was also named the Best of Fair Grand Champion for the second year in a row. She was also invited to submit her research project to the Thermo Fisher Junior Innovators Challenge, a competition open to the top 10% of the middle school science research projects in the nation.
All students that placed at the FWRSEF will go on to represent our region and GISD at the Texas Science and Engineering Fair held at Texas A&M University on March 28,2025.
