Granbury High School senior Nathan Walters has been recognized as the WFAA Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The recognition will air on Sunday, December 28 during the “Sports Special with Joe Trahan” segment on WFAA Channel 8.
Nathan has been a member of the varsity basketball program for two seasons (2024–26) and earned Academic All-District honors in 2025, reflecting his commitment to excellence both on and off the court.
Beyond athletics, Nathan is active in a broad range of academic and leadership roles:
- Clubs: Band; National Honor Society; UIL Math & Number Sense; Workforce in Training; District Strategic Plan Committee
- Leadership: NHS Vice President; Band Drum Major & Section Leader
- Honors/Awards: Area Band selection (tuba); All-Region Band
Academically, Nathan ranks second in his class and earned the Rural Small Town Recognition Award from the College Board.
He also demonstrates strong community commitment as a member of the Youth Leadership Council for the Granbury Church of Christ, participates in church service projects and volunteers as a coach for the Granbury Youth Basketball Association.
Looking ahead, Nathan plans to attend Yale University to pursue majors in both mathematics and music.
The WFAA Scholar-Athlete of the Week program—sponsored by Buick/GMC—recognizes North Texas high-school seniors who excel in athletics, academics and service. Nominees must rank in the top 15 percent of their class and demonstrate meaningful contributions to their school and community.
