At last night’s October board meeting, the following presentations were recognized during Achievement Spotlights.
Baccus Elementary principal Dr. Lacey Padgett and assistant principals Lacey Clark and Stephanie Slimak shared a campus update with the board while also highlighting the incredible growth and heart of their campus:
- Enrollment has grown from 454 to 594 students, driven by the launch of the One-Way Dual Language Program that promotes bilingualism, biliteracy, and biculturalism.
- Academic achievement climbed from a C (74) to a B (81) rating this year and Academic Growth jumped from a 75 (C) to an 83 (B) — with distinctions for Top 25% Academic Growth!
- The Capturing Kids’ Hearts program continues to build a positive school culture through leadership lessons, social contracts, and student-led celebrations.
- Students are engaged through leadership councils, house rallies, career day, and academic UIL — while families stay connected through events, newsletters, and active communication.
- The ACES Program continues to support students’ academic, communication, and social-emotional growth through a positive behavior framework.
- Families are deeply engaged through music programs, family events, and ongoing communication in newsletters and Class Dojo.
Principal Dr. Lacey Padgett and her team are truly making Baccus a place where every student can say:
💜 “I CAN achieve! I WILL succeed! Because I MATTER!”
The Baccus Treasure Team of Yadira Aguado, Landry Steifer, Isaac Moreno and Christopher Zarate performed the pledges for the start of the meeting and also shared what they love most about attending Baccus Elementary.
Each month, a Granbury ISD campus will present an update to the board. Granbury ISD is proud of the amazing work happening at Baccus and across the district!
The Board recognized Granbury High School seniors Eli Forrest and Grace Blevins, who were named National Merit Commend Scholars. More than 1.5 million students entered the 2025 program by taking the PSAT/NMSQT during their junior year. Of those, about 34,000 receive Letters of Commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic achievement. Students who earn this designation have placed in the top 3-4% of all test-takers of the PSAT nationwide.
Shottenkirk Senior of the Month: Daniel Hernandez. Daniel is a first-generation Mexican American whose parents immigrated from Mexico seeking a better life. He learned hard work from his father (construction worker) and respect and faith from his stay-at-home mother.
His Catholic faith has been his driving force, keeping him grounded through difficult times. Daniel is currently in his second year teaching kindergarten classes at church, helps with Wednesday confirmation classes, and serves as a Spanish Mass usher.
While he once considered trade school for automotive and welding, Daniel discovered his true calling. This fall, he will attend St. Joseph's Seminary College to major in Theology, proud of his roots and eager to continue his journey of faith and service.
