At last night’s September board meeting, the following presentations were recognized during Achievement Spotlights.
Brawner Elementary principal Sandy Ruiz and assistant principals Julie Sellers and Nuvia Velazquez shared a campus update with the board while also highlighting the incredible growth and heart of their campus:
- Steady academic progress with rising student achievement and gap-closing scores.
- Purple Star initiatives for honoring and supporting military-connected students.
- Dual Language Program leading the district in bilingual excellence, promoting a bilingual culture and having back-to-back Spanish Spelling Bee regional qualifiers.
- Capturing Kids’ Hearts initiatives teaching courage, kindness, empathy, and perseverance.
- CKH Ambassadors empowering student leaders to shape campus culture.
Brawner CKH Ambassadors Claire Hardin, John Jensen, and Liam Velazquez, performed the pledges for the start of the meeting and also surprised Dr. Morawski by singing Happy Birthday to her on her special day!
Each month, a Granbury ISD campus will present an update to the board. Granbury ISD is proud of the amazing work happening at Brawner and across the district! Brawner’s theme says it best: “Together We Can, Together We Will.” #TeamGISD #BetterTogether #BetterEveryDay
Shottenkirk Senior of the Month: Caroline Jobe. Caroline is three-year member of the Junior Optimist Club, and she also serves in Student Leadership Council, National Honor Society, and her church youth group, where she sings on the worship team.
A well-rounded student, Caroline excels in academics, athletics, and the arts—participating in varsity choir, track, athletic training, and volleyball. Her strong work ethic shows through summer jobs lifeguarding, modeling, and helping with her aunt’s business.
With plans to pursue a career in nursing, Caroline’s leadership, service, and determination embody the best of Granbury High School and the spirit of a Shottenkirk Senior of the Month.
The Board recognized Granbury High School freshman Paola Lumbreras, who has been named one of the Top 300 Junior Innovators in the United States by the Society for Science. Paola earned this prestigious honor with her award-winning research on natural antioxidants, which first claimed first place at the Fort Worth Science and Engineering Fair in the Medical and Health Sciences Division.
She is the only student from the Fort Worth region, one of just 51 students across Texas, and the first student in Granbury ISD history to receive this national recognition. Paola now advances for consideration as a Top 30 finalist and the opportunity to compete for a $75,000 grand prize in Washington, D.C.
